HOW DOES FRESH FOOD IMPACT OUR LOCAL COMMUNITY?
Why is SERV providing fresh food boxes? Isn’t that what local food banks provide?
This is a very good question and is core to our mission of providing healthy, nutritious food to those in our community. Local food banks provide an invaluable service, but we know from partnering with them the availability of wholesome, fresh food is a luxury. Our ability to provide this through our outreach partners helps provide a level of nutrition that people at or below the poverty line cannot afford and can rarely access. We call it #SERVFIRSTFRUITS, and it is our way of demonstrating how much we value people by giving our very best as our first fruit offering.
Wouldn’t it make more sense to donate more funds to the local food banks?
The mission of SERV is to use food as a platform to share God’s love and transform lives. In Lev. 23:10 we are instructed to bring our offerings from our “first fruits”, meaning the very best. We have already experienced the impact of delivering the freshest food available to families in need, and they feel a value and dignity that is often lacking from society. We are called to love others well….how better to do it than through food.
What does FOOD INSECURITY mean?
Food insecurity is the lack of access to enough food for an active, healthy life for all household members and the limited or uncertain availability of nutritionally adequate food. Basically - people are paying bills over buying food and their family is going hungry.
Can I still get a food box for my family?
Absolutely! While the mission of SERV is focused on using food as a platform to share the love of God to our community, we still realize the boxes are a great value and way to bless people with wholesome, fresh food. Additionally, part of the cost goes directly to help fund the ongoing mission and ministry of SERV.
How do you select partners for the donated food boxes?
We expect our list of partners to constantly grow and expand. Our only condition for our partners is they have a like-mind in support of our mission and ministry. If you represent or know of an outreach group that would benefit from partnering with SERV please have them email firstname.lastname@example.org or go to our website and click on BECOME A SERV PARTNER.
Why are there separate orders necessary for donated and purchased boxes?
Due to the necessity to collect tax on boxes purchased for your personal use it is necessary to use a different check out procedure to collect and remit the appropriate sales tax. Since donated boxes are considered a charitable gift, this also simplifies the receipt process for your taxes. We apologize for any inconvenience.
Can I designate where my donated box is distributed?
Yes. During the process of setting up your donation you will have to ability to select one of our partner agencies. Please note that once a planned need has been met, any boxes in excess of that need will be provided to the next greatest need. Of course, you can also select to have SERV provide your donated box to the area of greatest need and we will take it from there!
CAN YOU TELL ME MORE ABOUT THE FOOD?
Who can purchase or donate the food boxes?
Anyone can purchase or donate the food boxes. You don’t have to belong to a specific church or organization to participate.
What is the cost / value of the food?
You will save on average 30-40% off the retail cost, compared to the most popular super markets.
What quality is the food?
We provide you with the freshest food available, direct from the growers.
Is the food the same every month?
We offer a different menu every month, and provide the freshest produce that is in season.
Is there a limit to how many food boxes I purchase or donate?
There is no limit to how many food boxes you may purchase or donate.
How do I place an order?
Go to the website and click PURCHASE A BOX in the upper right corner of the home page. You’ll have the option to purchase your box for the current month or select a monthly subscription.
How do I get a receipt for my order?
You will automatically receive an email confirming your purchase. Please keep a copy of your order form as your receipt. You will need this to pick up your order.
Can I get a refund on my order?
We are sorry, but all food box sales are final and we are unable to process any refunds or credits. Please note that if you cannot pick up your box, it will be donated to a family in need in our local community.
PICKING UP ORDERS
Why are your pick-up events only at specific times?
Our pick-ups are usually on the last Saturday of each month starting in the early morning hours. The food is perishable and must be picked up within the hour of delivery. This is why prompt pick up is so important.
How are the food boxes delivered?
The food boxes are delivered on a refrigerated truck to each site in order to keep the food fresh.
Can someone else pick-up my order for me?
You are more than welcome to send anyone you choose to pick up your order. All we ask is that you give your friend or family member a copy of your receipt.
I missed my pickup! What do I do now?
If you haven’t picked up your food box within the hour of delivery, we will donate it to a family in need within our community.
Why donate my food?
All food is perishable, and our Sites do not have refrigeration available to keep the food fresh. Just think what a blessing it will be for a family in need to receive a week’s worth of food on your behalf!
How does pick-up work?
Once you arrive we will collect your receipt and help you with your box to your car if needed. It shouldn’t take more than a few minutes. We recommend putting your fresh food into your refrigerator or freezer as soon as possible.
